Internet and Email - Technology at its Best
In the mid 90's I had a lengthy time of deep solitude in the Australian desert in an area 100 kilometres from Alice Springs. During this time I had a vision of how the relatively new creations of the internet and email were about to change our lives forever. I saw an image of millions, billions, gazillions of irridescent threads of many colours connecting people, events and countries ... and how the threads grew exponentially very quickly.
I saw the potential for enormous good in learning, teaching, communicating, sharing and inspiring.
Ten years after seeing that immense buzzing web of communication I began creating this website and am astonished how the vision relates to my own little website. My daily ritual of checking the stats shows readers from countries as diverse as Australia, USA, Russia, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Argentina, Canada, UK, Switzerland, France, Indonesia, Hungary, Brazil and so on ... and I marvel that English is spoken in so many countries and that people have such interest in our potpourri of goodies here at Celtic Gardens.
Since I made the Celtic Prayer Flags (click here) I have been tracking - as much as possible - the countries that they are sent to and the manner in which they are used. Last month I was overjoyed to receive an order from a woman who was excited about her upcoming marriage and choose our flags to feature in their ceremony.
Rochelle, the beautiful bride you see in these photos and I had quite a number of emails back and forth. I recalled the days of old when I ran Spiral - my metaphysical bookshop in Fitzroy - when the fastest means of communication was by airmail letter, telephone or fax. Rochelle and her now husband Mike live in the US and they wanted the flags to grace their special day.
Rochelle and Mike were married on the shores of Turquoise Lake in Leadville, Colorado. As I look at their photos and wonder about the lives they will craft together - I feel blessed that the prayers Anna and I chose for each flag have sent such positive messages for their wedding ceremony.
